Where is the Costa Blanca in Spain

Where is the Costa Blanca in Spain

We will explain where the Costa Blanca is, which is the Costa Blanca (with important nuances), and which areas are the most visited on the Costa Blanca.

Where is the Costa Blanca: exact location on the map of Spain

Let's start with the essentials, bluntly. It is on the Mediterranean coast of eastern and southeastern Spain and corresponds, at a tourist level, to the coast of the province of Alicante, within the Valencian Community.

To put it even more usefully: the Costa Blanca "looks" at the Mediterranean and is articulated around two main axes:

  • The coastline (beaches, coves, ports and promenades)

  • An immediate interior (valleys, mountains and villages a few minutes from the sea) that, for buying a home, is almost as important as the coast

Map of the Costa Blanca: Boundaries, Key Municipalities and Landmarks

If we mentally open a Costa Blanca map, the most common way to describe its boundaries is:

  • to the north, Dénia

  • to the south, Pilar de la Horadada

That is the most repeated tourist reference and the one that best helps to locate oneself. From there, there are towns that function as "anchors" on the map because most searches revolve around them: Dénia, Jávea/Xàbia, Teulada-Moraira, Benissa, Calpe, Altea, Benidorm, Alicante, Santa Pola, Guardamar del Segura, Torrevieja or Orihuela Costa, among others.

What does Costa Blanca mean and why is it called that

The Costa Blanca is the tourist name given to a part of the Mediterranean coast of the province of Alicante, in the Valencian Community. When we talk about what "Costa Blanca" means, we are referring to a geographical and cultural brand associated with a lifestyle by the sea: beaches, coves, abundant light and coastal towns with a strong Mediterranean identity. And if we ask ourselves why it is called that, the most accepted explanation is that the term alludes to the clear and luminous appearance of its coast, especially the clarity of the light, the traditionally whitewashed constructions in many coastal towns and the visual effect of its sandy areas and cliffs under the sun; in addition, the name was consolidated as a tourist denomination to differentiate and promote the Alicante area compared to other Mediterranean destinations.

Main areas of the Costa Blanca and how they feel about living

The main areas of the Costa Blanca are usually divided, in a practical way, into north, centre and south, and each one "feels" different when we experience it on a daily basis. On the northern Costa Blanca (Marina Alta) we find a more residential and Mediterranean atmosphere, with coves, mountainous relief and towns where tranquillity and life all year round are valued, as well as a very attractive nearby interior. In the central area (Marina Baixa and surroundings of Alicante) the pace is more dynamic, with a combination of charming villages and areas with a wide range of services, leisure and restaurants, which fits well if we are looking for comfort and constant activity. Finally, on the southern Costa Blanca (Vega Baja) there is a predominance of long and wide beaches, extensive housing estates and a particularly practical environment for those who prioritise access, services and a very functional daily life.

How to get to the Costa Blanca

Access: AP-7, N-332 and Alicante-Elche airport

On a practical level, the coast is mainly covered with two axes by road:

  • the AP-7 (faster in many sections)

  • the N-332 (parallel to the sea, useful for linking localities)

And, for most, the usual point of entry is Alicante-Elche Airport, due to its connectivity.

Costa Blanca to invest: main residence, second home and smart decisions

Without falling into easy promises, there is a reality: those who buy well, buy with a long-term logic. That's why we recommend looking:

  • Orientation and light (impacts comfort and maintenance)

  • Real distance to services

  • Noise and seasonality (very relevant)

  • Type of community or urbanization (expenses, standards, conservation)

  • resale potential (a fashionable area is not the same as an established area)
